I actually tried to update my a7rIII with the a7III firmware once and received a similar msg. I press next and it says The update is not for your model. I waited about 10 mins and no change in the dialogue box. However, I proceed and when I get to the "System Software updater" screen the LCD on the camera is showing USB mode - "mass storage" but the dialogue box (under point 7) doesn't show the little activity disk to the left of the "connect the camera to the computer". At point 6 under the heading "Download and Update the Firmware" the monitor on the camera doesn't turn off, I tried the other USB 3 port and same issue.
#4.01 SONY UPDATE HOW TO#
Sorry to sound like a teacher but so many times people (like me sometimes) try to jump the gun and do things their own way, thinking 'I know how to do this', then we hit troubles and have to back-track.īrian Smith who is on this forum has a great update resource at his site First, read instructions properly or at least again, then follow instructions 100% to the letter. Problem solving usually starts at the most basic level. All you have to do is find what's causing it - Gulp, sometimes that's a lot harder to do than it sounds. It's most likely some issue between what you are (or aren't) doing and the camera/PC link, or something that is not quite communicating correctly between the Mac and the camera - a glitch unique to your setup, which can usually be corrected. I don't think the Mac is at fault here, after all it's just another computer and its operating system, but originally, if I remember correctly, I think that maybe their wasn't an Mac updater released by Sony, for whatever reason.

I assumed the OP would follow the help linked for Mac first - if they haven't tried a Windows PC yet it is probably because they don't own one or don't have immediate access to one. I've just never read a thread where people have had issues with Windows, and some users seemed unable to get it to work on Mac even with detailed installation help. Yes of course the Mac can do it, it is offered by the manufacturer after all You must first run UpdateSettingTool and follow the prompts to run it.
#4.01 SONY UPDATE MAC OS#
All the latest Sony Firmware Updates are only compatible with Mac OS 10.12-10.14Ģ. I have updated Nex7, a6000, a6300, a6500, a7rII, a7rIII, a7III, and a9 all on a Mac without any issues the first time so it isn't that a Mac can't do it but it does come with specific instructions that need to be followed.ġ.
